Not only was I out of butter and sugar, but I also never had spelt flour in the first place, which the source recipe calls for. I substituted regular, all-purpose flour, without any major issues. You’ll note, however, that the version I made is thicker than the original and that’s fine by me.
The result was a crunchy-on-the-outside, soft-on-the-inside, maple-infused treat. And with the oatmeal I decided to consider them healthy, or at least a healthier alternative.
